Can you restore original wood windows or do they need to be replaced? +
In most cases original wood windows can be fully restored to better than original performance. We rebuild sashes, reglaze panes, replace failed glazing putty, refinish original hardware, and add interior storms or weatherstripping for energy efficiency. Restored originals outperform vinyl replacements and preserve the value of the home.
How do you modernize systems without damaging original finishes? +
We use minimally invasive routing techniques for new electrical, plumbing, and HVAC. Wherever possible we run lines through existing wall cavities, closets, or under floors. When openings are required we work with finish carpenters to patch in plaster and trim so the original finishes look undisturbed when the work is complete.
