Fire & Water Restoration FAQs

Do you handle the mitigation phase or just the rebuild? +
Onsite specializes in the reconstruction phase that comes after mitigation. Mitigation is the emergency work right after the fire or flood, water extraction, structural drying, soot and smoke cleaning, and content removal, typically done by 24/7 restoration companies. Once mitigation is complete and the home is dry and clean we take over and rebuild. If you need a mitigation referral we are happy to recommend trusted local companies.
How does the insurance claim process work? +
We work directly with your insurance adjuster from our first walkthrough. We document all damage with photos, prepare detailed line item scopes in the format adjusters expect, and meet on site for the inspection. Our experience streamlining communication with adjusters keeps claims moving and helps make sure the scope of work fully reflects the damage.
How long does a fire or water damage rebuild take? +
Timelines depend on scope. A localized water damage rebuild affecting one or two rooms typically runs 4 to 8 weeks. A larger fire rebuild involving structural repair, full interior reconstruction, and systems replacement can run 4 to 9 months. We provide a realistic schedule once the scope and insurance approval are finalized.
Can you match my existing finishes? +
Yes. Matching existing finishes is standard for restoration work. We source matching cabinetry, tile, flooring, trim profiles, and paint to make the rebuilt areas continuous with undamaged parts of the home. When matching is impossible we coordinate with you on substitutes that work with the existing aesthetic.
Do I need to move out during reconstruction? +
It depends on the scope. Localized damage to a single area can often be rebuilt while you remain in the home with proper containment. Full structural rebuilds, kitchen damage, or extensive HVAC and electrical work typically require you to move out for the duration. Many insurance policies cover additional living expenses during reconstruction. We discuss this honestly during the initial walkthrough.
